So I deliberately chose to see the two big-hitting Macbeths this year (the RSC and the National) to see what there was by way of a contrast, and on reflection it feels to me that maybe contrasts was what this production was all about.

Well it seems that while I’ve been busy with work (boooring) everyone else has been busy advancing their plans to celebrate Shakespeare’s 400^th deathday*, and the range is astonishing – both in terms of what’s going on and who is involved.

I had a fabulous day on Saturday at the Barbican’s Shakespeare weekender, wittily entitled “Play On”.

In a fit of – I don’t know exactly what but it certainly wasn’t sanity – I bought tickets to see The King and Country tetralogy (also known as the Hollow Crown) over three days at the Barbican. This is the fourth of the four – the first is Richard II, the second is Henry IV Part One and the third is Henry IV Part Two.

Hal is back in trousers. I mislike this.
